Coming home is always a wonderful thing. Whether a short trip for errands or a great vacation with family, home is where the heart is. Here are a few things you can do to make coming home safer…
Whenever possible, park close to your door, this will eliminate the need to walk long distances with groceries, bags or other items that weigh you down. I still say exercise is great for you but getting in and out of the house is a little different than exercise.
Ensure a clear pathway on that short walk from your car to your door. It is fall and time for Halloween decorations but they should not be cluttering your walkway and/or stairs into your house. No slips, trips or falls, please. A clear path includes a safe, even driveway or sidewalk. Yours covered in cracks and holes…call a trusted contractor and get them fixed. The coming winter will only make them worse.
Pathways and doors should be well lit as well. You want to be able to see where you are going and who is at the door when you have visitors. About that door, does it work properly? Is it easy to open and close? Another thing about winter coming, doors often swell and are harder to close. For your safety and security, ensure that your door opens and closes securely, with ease. Again get some help if you need it.
Home is our castle, our refuge, our place of cherished memories. We can be ourselves, hang out in our pajamas with coffee in the morning. Lets keep it warm, welcoming and safe. Enjoy your safe and happy home.
