I hope everyones holidays were very happy!! Now is the time to start thinking about the new year. Will you be making any New Year’s resolutions? The making of New Year’s resolutions dates back to Babylonian times. In the Medieval era, Knights made a ‘peacock promise’ to continue to be chivalrous in the new year. In the 1940’s about 25 percent of Americans made new year’s resolutions. Currently, about 40% of the population does.
The most popular resolutions are to improve health, finances and education. Studies show that most people are confident they will succeed in keeping their resolutions. However, close to 90 percent of people fail to keep their resolutions. Those that are successful make goals that are measurable and realistic. For example, instead of having a goal of losing weight, set a goal to lose half to a pound a week until you reach your goal weight.
So is it even a good idea to make New Year’s resolution? Well, yes and no. It is good to set resolutions if you are able to keep them. When people fail to keep their resolutions, they often feel bad about themselves for failing and that is not good. But overall, it is a good idea to strive for self improvement.
In the last few years, I have not made any resolutions for the new year. This year, I plan to. What about you? You can comment here on the blog about your New Year’s resolutions if you like.
Whatever you do, all of us at A Time for Care hope you have a very happy and healthy New Year!
