I think fall is finally here. There is a definite chill in the air, the leaves are changing colors and I hear the weatherman threaten snow. Time to get out the hot chocolate, pumpkins and turn on the furnace (if you haven’t already).
But did you have your furnace checked? There are some things you can do yourself…See if the furnace works but setting the thermostat to a temperature above normal like 85 degrees and see if the furnace and blower start up and then if they actually blow hot air. If not, it might be time to call for a repair. Make sure you remember to turn it back down to normal.
Can you change your filter? When was the last time it was changed? Depending on whom you talk to furnace filters need to be changed about every three months and that can change depending on the age of your furnace, if you have pets or if someone in the home smokes (hope not). If you cannot change it – have someone change it for you.
Make sure that the areas around the heating vents are clear of debris and not blocked by furniture, you want to heat the house not the sofa.
If you do need a repair or a new furnace, you can get estimates and second opinions.
Keep your home warm and welcoming with a functioning furnace. Keep yourself safe with a working smoke detector. (It is still fire prevention month after all!)
Until next week – Happy Fall.
