Summer is here and the living is easy (and hot!).
1. Close the blinds or the drapes. This will block the sun from coming in and heating up your home.
2. Keep your air conditioner clean and leak free. Have someone clean the filter if it has one and any window units should not have any leaks around them - have someone help with weather striping or caulk.
3. Use a fan - but only on yourself not the room. Fans make us feel cooler when we feel their breeze but they do not do much to cool a room so shut them off when you are not there.
4. Close everything...windows, doors, fireplace dampers. Keep hot air out.
5. Stay hydrated - when you sweat you loose fluids. Water is the best liquid for hydration. If you drink coffee daily, this does count toward hydration. If you hardly ever drink caffeinated beverages, when you do, they will make you less hydrated.
6. Eat light - this is a great time to up your intake of fruits and vegetables. They are higher in water content to help keep you hydrated and are easiest to digest so your body doesn't have to work as hard.
These are just a few ways to beat the heat this summer...what else do you do to stay cool?
